WILLIAMSTON — The Washington 10U and 12U All-Stars need two more wins to advance to the championship game in the ENC State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament. If that happens, Washington punches a ticket to the southeast regional in Varina, Va.
The Washington 10U team fell into the loser’s bracket after suffering a 9-0 loss to Pitt County on Friday morning. However, the team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Laurinburg, 5-3, in an elimination game Friday evening.
The 10U team will look to keep it going when it faces Chatham County at noon. The winner of that game faces the loser between Pitt County and Johnston County at 3 p.m., with the victor advancing to Sunday’s championships.
Washington’s 12U squad kept its hopes alive with a 9-0 win over New Bern in an elimination game Friday, one of 26 games played during the day. Of those 26, 22 were played at Godwin-Coppage Park. The 18U tournament got started with four games at Williamston High School.
Washington’s 12U team found itself in the loser’s bracket after falling 9-0 to Pitt County earlier Friday. The team will play again at 10 a.m. today in a rematch with Pitt County, who took a 5-0 win over Washington on Thursday. The 12U team needs to win that game, and another game against Laurinburg at 3 p.m., to advance to Sunday’s championships.
Washington’s 8U squad saw its season come to a close with a 13-8 loss to Laurinburg.
Washington’s 14U squad was eliminated after an 8-0 loss to Williamston.
The 18U Washington All-Stars captured a 9-4 victory over Cashie in opening round play. The team will face host Williamston at 5 p.m. today.
Chocowinity’s 16U All-Stars suffered a 10-0 loss to Henderson-Vance on Friday, eliminating the Chocowinity squad from the tournament.
Host Williamston still has teams vying for a tournament championship. The 14U team is playing Henderson-Vance at noon today. A win there, coupled with a victory over the loser between Pitt County and Pamlico later today, will get the 14U squad into the championship round.
Williamston’s 18U squad is also still alive.
The Williamston 8U squad was eliminated after a 22-1 loss to Laurinburg on Friday. The 10U and 12U squads fell out of the tournament with second losses Thursday.
