The ninth annual Bobby Andrews Softball Scholarship Tournament begins today.
There are 21 teams that will be competing in five age divisions. The tournament, which will be held at the Susiegray McConnell Sports Complex, will be held today through Sunday.
The event will kick off at 6 p.m. today when Andrews presents his annual scholarship awards.
“This still means a lot to me,” Andrews said. “It really does.
“Everybody is excited about it and ready to go.”
Washington, Diamond Dusters, Camden, Down East and Currituck make up the 8U division.
The 10U division is comprised of Washington, Diamond Dusters, Cashie, Edenton, Down East, Currituck and Tri County Thunder.
Playing in the 12U division will be Washington, Currituck, PC Tornadoes, Cashie and Perquimans Pride.
The Dirt Devils will face Currituck in a best-of-three series in the 14U division.
Andrews Angels will square off with Washington in a best-of-three series in the high school division.
While being able to present scholarships for up to nine players means a lot to Andrews, he said getting to spend time with all the players is even better.
“This is still good and still means a lot,” Andrews said. “When the players come back and tell me how much they appreciated everything, that’s what it’s all about.”
