WILLIAMSTON — S.C. Griffin Jr., 85, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Bullock and Rev. Dean Harrell officiating. Burial will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Griffin was born in Martin County on January 20, 1924, son of the late Simon Claude Griffin Sr. and Euzelia Whitley Griffin. He was a farmer and veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. Mr. Griffin was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
On April 26, 1951, he married Millie Coltrain Griffin who preceded him in death on March 26, 2004. He is survived by a son Simon A. Griffin and wife Eleyse H. of Williamston and sister Pearl G. Ross of Williamston, granddaughter Susan C. Griffin of Northern Africa.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at 1214 Corey Drive.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to International Mission Board c/o New Hope Baptist Church or to Memorial Baptist Church.
