Northside falls to Creswell|Williamston wins, Plymouth falls

The season didn’t get off to a good start for the Northside Panthers, as they fell 48-12 to the Creswell Tigers in Friday’s season opener.
Northside (0-1) had been scheduled to play at Mattamuskeet on the road, but the Lakers couldn’t field enough players. Creswell (1-0) stepped into to fill the spot, and left Yeatesville with an impressive victory.
Northside is back home next Friday night as the Panthers welcome the Pamlico Hurricanes into town.
Creswell plays host to the Southside Seahawks.
WILLIAMSTON 39, AYDEN-GRIFTON 20
The Williamston Tigers (1-0), last year’s Class 1-A state runners-up, certainly seemed to pick up where they left off last year. The Tigers rolled to a 39-20 win over the Ayden-Grifton Chargers (0-1). The Chargers advanced to the Class 1-AA East Regional championship last year.
Coach Asim McGill’s team racked up 462 yards of offense, including 344 on the ground. Cedric Moody ran for 153 yards on 13 carries. Moody, who ran for a 57-yard TD, also threw a 43-yard TD pass to Jermaine McGee. McGee added a 24-yard touchdown run.
Luke Matthews also had a big night. He ran for 105 yards on 15 carries, including a 5-yard TD jaunt. Matthews also completed 8 of 10 passes for 75 yards and a 36 TD toss to K.J. Brown.
Kenny Brown added a 33-yard scoring run.
Williamston plays at Edenton-Holmes next Friday night.
FARMVILLE CENTRAL 27, PLYMOUTH 23
The Plymouth Vikings fell 27-23 to Farmville Central in Friday’s season opener.
The Vikings (0-1), playing on the road to start the season, got 134 yards rushing and two scores from Ronnell Blount. Blount’s scores went for 75 and 1 yards.
Kevin Purkett completed 5 of 8 passes and had a 31-yard touchdown toss to Azaam Gross. Dylan Watts added 94 yards on the ground.
Plymouth plays host to the Jamesville Bullets next Friday night.
