The Southside Seahawks won their second straight game with a convincing 34-6 win over the Columbia Wildcats on Friday night. It was the first time since the 2006 season that the Seahawks (2-2) have posted consecutive wins.
“The big thing is that we are even going into conference play next week,” Southside coach David Hines said. “It’s a seven-game season starting with Camden (on the road) next week.
“We just have to keep working and keep getting better.”
Of Southside’s five scores, three came on the first play of drives. Southside was dominating the Wildcats (1-2) so early that a continuous clock was started in the first quarter.
Quarterback Terrill Moore had a solid night running the show. The sophomore fired touchdown passes to Willie Ruffin and Bryan Dixon.
Ruffin also had one rushing touchdown, giving him seven total touchdowns for the season.
Lonnie Williams and Marcus Oneal also had rushing touchdowns for the Seahawks.
PANTHERS 40, TIGERS 13
The North Pitt Panthers handed the Williamston Tigers their first loss of the season, taking a 40-13 win.
North Pitt (3-2) pulled off the shocker at home. The Tigers (3-1), last year’s state runners-up, had outscored their last two opponents 72-0.
Williamston plays at Manteo next week.
TIGERS 53, HURRICANES 0
The Creswell Tigers had an easy time with the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes, rolling to a 53-0 win.
Creswell (3-0) is the lone unbeaten team in the Tideland Conference.
The Hurricanes (0-4) have been outscored 171-0 in four games.
The Tigers travel to Jamesville next Fiday night.
BULLETS 30, LAKERS 6
The Jamesville Bullets went on the road and picked up a 30-6 win over the Mattamuskeet Lakers.
It was the second straight win for Jamesville (2-1). The Lakers (1-1) suffered their first loss of the year.
Mattamuskeet visits Columbia next Friday night, while Jamesville plays host to Creswell.
