Daniels, Haywood finding the end zone|Former local stars still shining

Travis Daniels scored his sixth touchdown of the season for UNC-Pembroke in Saturdays 30-3 win over Webber International.
Daniels got the scoring started with a 16-yard run in the first quarter.
The former Washington Pam Pack star ran for 35 yards on seven carries (5.0 average). He also had two catches for 7 yards.
For the season, Daniels has rushed for a team-best 597 yards and six scores on 81 carries (7.4 average). He also has eight catches for 77 yards.
The Braves (5-1) play at Fairmont State in a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
BRYAN HAYWOOD
Bryan Haywood scored twice for North Carolina Wesleyan in Saturdays 34-24 win over Ferrum College.
Haywood, a former star at Southside High School, scored on runs of 4 and 2 yards. He finished with 91 yards rushing on 17 totes. The senior also had one catch for 14 yards.
For the season, Haywood has a team-high 335 yards rushing on 58 carries (5.8 average) and four touchdowns. He also has five receptions for 45 yards and one kickoff return for 24 yards.
Wesleyan (2-2) plays at Greensboro College in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
C.J. WILSON
C.J. Wilson, the Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, had two tackles and one quarterback hurry for East Carolina in Saturdays 21-17 win Marshall.
Wilson, a former star at Northside High School, has 16.5 tackles, including 3.5 tackles-for-loss (14 yards), 1.5 sacks for 11 yards in loss, four quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery this season.
Wilson has 25 sacks, 38.5 tackles-for-loss, 25 quarterback hurries and 148 tackles in his career.
The Pirates (3-2, 2-0 C-USA) play at SMU in an 8 p.m. game Saturday.
GREG PALMER
Greg Palmer, a former star at Northside High School, came up with his first career interception in Chowans 37-17 loss to Fayetteville State on Saturday. He also had three tackles and one quarterback hurry.
For the season, the senior co-captain has a team-high 32 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss (23 yards), two sacks (17 yards), one interception, one fumble recovery and one quarterback hurry.
The Hawks (0-6) play at Livingstone College in a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday.
JAMONT JONES
Jamont Jones had four tackles for Lenoir-Rhyne in Saturdays 38-17 win over Tusculum.
The former Washington Pam Pack star did not have any returns in this game.
Jones, a special teams standout, has 11 kickoff returns for 335 yards (30.5 average), which includes a 94-yard return for a score, and three punt returns for 41 yards (13.7 average). The starting defensive back also has one interception, 18 tackles and one blocked kick.
The Bears (4-2) play host to Wingate in a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
TERRY GRIFFIN
Terry Griffin, a former standout at Roanoke High School, had two tackles for Elizabeth City in Saturdays 23-10 loss to Virginia State.
For the season, the junior defensive tackle has 22 tackles, including 4.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry.
The Vikings (4-2) play host to Bowie State in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
KENNETH HYMAN
Kenneth Hyman, a former star at Roanoke High School, had two tackles for Guilford in Saturdays 48-6 win over Southern Virginia. Hyman also had one punt return for 17 yards.
For the season, the sophomore cornerback has eight tackles, five pass breakups and one punt return for 17 yards.
The Quakers (1-4) play at Bridgewater on Oct. 17
CHASE TRIPP
Chase Tripp had one tackle for Winston-Salem in Saturdays 7-3 loss to Howard. Tripp also broke up a pass.
The freshman defensive lineman, a former standout with the Washington Pam Pack, has two tackles and one pass break-up this season.
Tripp has appeared in three games.
The Rams (0-5) play at UC Davis (Davis, Calif.) on Oct. 17.
WILLIAM HUNT
William Hunt, a former star at Plymouth High School, did not play in Fayetteville States 37-17 win over Chowan on Saturday.
The freshman defensive tackle has four tackles on the season.
The Broncos (3-3) play host to Shaw in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
JAMEL MOORE
Jamel Moore, a former standout at Williamston High School, did not have any stats in Livingstones 30-15 loss to Johnson C. Smith on Saturday.
For the year, Moore has six kickoff returns for 181 yards (30.2 average), eight receptions for 116 yards and 19 rushes for 5 yards.
The Blue Bears (0-6) play host to Chowan at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
TERRANCE COPPER
Terrance Copper has two special teams tackles for the Kansas City Chiefs in Sundays 27-16 loss to the New York Giants.
Copper, a former standout at Washington High School, has one catch for 8 yards, and two special teams tackles this season.
The Chiefs (0-4) play at Dallas in a 1 p.m. game Sunday.

Smith, a former standout at Washington High School, has one goal this season.
She has played in five of her teams games.
The Monarchs (7-5) play at Christopher Newport on Saturday and at North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday.
JEANNA BUCK
Jeanna Buck, a former standout at Washington High School, had two shots on goal for the Peace Pacers in Saturdays 10-0 win over Mary Baldwin College.
Buck has played in all nine games for the Peace soccer team this season. The freshman defender/midfielder has started in seven of those games. She has nine shots, including five shots on goal, this year.
Peace (1-8) plays at Ferrum College on Friday and at Averett University on Sunday.
STEPHEN CULLOP
Stephen Cullop, a former standout at Terra Ceia, has played in four games for the Waldorf Warriors soccer team.
The freshman goalie has five saves and has allowed seven goals in 83 minutes, 38 seconds of time in the net.
The Warriors (4-9) play at Viterbo University (La Crosse, WI ) on Tuesday.
JOHN LOHMAN
John Lohman, a former standout at Washington High School, is playing with the Pfeiffer Falcons soccer team.
The freshman is a midfielder for the Falcons (7-3, 4-1 Conference Carolinas).

DANIELYA WHITNEY
Danielya Whitney has nine kills and two digs for Pitt Community College.
Whitney, a former standout at Southside High School, is a freshman middle blocker for the Bulldogs.
Pitt (10-8) play Central Carolina Community College on Oct. 13.
DAMIEN WILKINS
Damien Wilkins, a Washington native, had seven points, four rebounds and
an assist for the Minnesota Timberwolves in Sundays preseason opener, a
117-103 win over Milwaukee.
It was Wilkins first game with Minnesota after being traded from the
Oklahoma City Thunder.
Minnesota plays Toronto in another preseason game Friday.
OVERSEAS BASKETBALL
ELTON COFFIELD
Elton Coffield, a former standout at Williamston High School, is playing for the BSW Sixers in Germany.
Coffield had 24 points in an opening-day win, and followed that up with 26 points and 11 rebounds in a victory Saturday.
JOSEPH BARBER
Joseph Barber, a former standout at Terra Ceia, is playing for CS Energia Rovinari in Romania.
Barber is averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
RALPH BIGGS
Ralph Biggs, a former star at Washington High school, is playing for Krasnie Krilya Samara in Russia.
RYAN ZIMMERMAN
Ryan Zimmerman, a Washington native, finished off a solid season with the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman hit .292 and belted a career-high 33 home runs and knocked in a career-best 106 RBIs.
The fourth-year player scored a career-high 110 runs while collecting 37 doubles. Zimmermans 178 hits this season were also a career best.
