CHOCOWINITY Mr. William Lenwood Len Whitley, 80, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Whitley, a native of Pitt County, had been a resident of Beaufort County since 1949. A mechanic by trade, he was employed with McKinsey Tractor Company and retired from PCS Texas Gulf after many years of service. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he always put his family first. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed making people laugh, and any mention of a project to him, he wasnt happy until he assisted you in accomplishing it. An avid gardener, he enjoyed caring for his yard and tinkering in his shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jesse and Sudie Virginia Everett Whitley, sons, Lenwood Wayne Whitley and William Gary Whitley, granddaughters, Debra Gail Waters and Dusty Renée Clark, brothers, Herman F. Whitley and James Ervin Whitley, and a sister, Ruby Dail Everett.
He is survived by his: wife of 60 years, Polly Hudson Whitley; sons, Bobby Felton Paige and wife Linda, of Greenville, and Christopher Earl Whitley, of Chocowinity; daughters, Debra Gail W. Buck and husband, Arnold, of Kinston, and Ava Whitley Creech and husband, Ronny Creech, of Beaufort, and Becky Jo Whitley, of Beaufort; daughter in-law, Susan Dixon Whitley, of Chocowinity; grandchildren, Bobby Felton Paige, Jr., William Lenwood Paige, Gerald Watkins, Kim Paige Wrenn, Amanda Whitley, Mathew Shane Whitley, Joseph Earl Waters Jr., Arnold Vinson Buck, II, Marie Dawn Waters, Bridget E. Eubanks; great-grandchildren, Emma Noel Underhill, Ronnie Lee Eubanks, III, and Una Mae Waltenberger.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
