Mr. Hallet Long Waters, Sr., age 81, a resident of 2830 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, NC died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at his home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday October 24, 2009 in the Waters Family Cemetery at the home. Services will be officiated by Rev. Lee Hendricks. Mr. Waters’ grandsons: Gavin Sterrenberg, Jeremy Waters, Jason Midyette, Robbie Midyette, Quentin Mason, Brandon Mason and Justin Midyette will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Waters was born in Beaufort County on June 22, 1928 son of the late Wilbert “Hilliard” Waters and the late Sarah Virginia Cutler Waters. He attended Bath High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Waters married the former Monteen Astor Harrison on May 2, 1953 who survives. He was a farmer, construction worker and worked with the N.C. State Department of Transportation in the bridge department until his retirement. After retiring with the state, Mr. Waters worked with GDS Sanitation Department until his bout with Alzheimer’s. He was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Waters loved working and playing his mandolin and harmonica.
Surviving along with his wife of 56 years, Monteen of the home are four daughters: Julia “Terry” Midyette and her husband Merlon of Washington, Teena Ratcliffe and her husband James of Pinetown, Sarah “Geney” Mason of Pinetown and Judi “J.J.” Sterrenberg and her husband Chris of Pinetown; a son: Gregory Waters and his wife Libby of Pinetown; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Waters was preceded in death by a son: Hallet “Hal” Waters, Jr.; a twin grandson: Cory Long Waters; two sisters: Marshell W. Everson and Lillian W. Woolard; three brothers: Wilbert T. Waters, Nathan T. Waters and Herman A. Waters and several siblings in infancy.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday October 23, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
