Washington Pam Pack junior Beth Batchelor will be competing in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A state tennis tournament today. The tournament is being held at the Burlington Parks and Recreation Tennis Center.
Batchelor, Washington’s No. 1 player all season, enters the tournament as a third seed. She will face Weddington’s Meredith Branham, the second seed from the Midwest regional, in this morning’s opening-round match.
“The competition is going to be tough at state, but I’m excited,” Batchelor said. “It will be a good experience. I’m just going to have fun and try my best.”
The winner will face either Cameron Union Pines star Neena Wanko, the Mid-east regional champion, or Asheville’s Taylor Haynes, the fourth seed out of the West regional.
Williamston’s Kate Matthews and Sara Chesson will be competing in the 1-A state tournament in Cary. The Tiger duo, the second seed from the East regional, will face East Montgomery’s Myranda Blake-Delana Hinson in the first round.
The winner will face either Mount Airy’s Ellie Case-Jordan Gwyn or Dixon’s Brook Lewis-Julia Taylor.
