Mr. Bryan Wilson Smithwick, Sr., age 94, a resident of 72 Down Shore Road, the Core Point community of Blounts Creek, NC died Saturday November 21, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday November 24, 2009 at the Core Point Cemetery officiated by Rev. Charles Taylor. Pallbearers will be Bill Burgess, Joseph Paul, Walter Martin, Sonny Smithwick, Ricky Smithwick and Travis Martin.
Mr. Smithwick was born in Core Point on September 18, 1915 son of the late William Jarvis Smithwick and the late Laura Bennett Smithwick. He was a graduate of Aurora High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He served in the European Theater on the USS Honolulu and the USS Kearny and participated in the Atlantic Convoy Service. Mr. Smithwick married the former Esthalee Pipkin on July 15, 1946 who survives after 63 years of marriage. He was a self employed farmer who operated several commercial trucking companies. He was a member of the Washington Moose Lodge, the former Brentwood Lodge, the Aurora Veterans of Foreign War post 9402 and the Aurora American Legion. Mr. Smithwick enjoyed the Pamlico River, good friends, good music, playing cards and commercial fishing.
Surviving along with his wife, Esthalee of the home are a son: Bryan W. Smithwick, Jr. and his wife Judy of Core Point; a granddaughter: Ambre Tate of Raleigh and special friends: Linda and Walter Martin who were a great help to the Smithwick family for years. Mr. Smithwick had eight siblings that preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Mr. Smithwick’s son: Bryan located at 347 Down Shore Road, Blounts Creek, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Beaufort County Humane Society, P.O. Box 8, Washington, NC 27889.
