Mrs. Margie Bateman Phelps, 81, of Plymouth passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at her home, in the company of loved ones.
Born April 16, 1928 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late James T. Bateman and Brownie Boyd Bateman and was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Alligood; sisters, Inez Jones and Leona Wurn.  Margie was a retired office manager with Seaboard Oxygen Service and member of First Baptist Church.
Her family includes her husband, Bailey Caswell Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; daughter, Denise P. Nobles and husband Lloyd of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Bailey C. Phelps, Jr. and wife Deane of Jamesville, N.C., James F. (Ricky) Phelps and wife Esther of Denver, Co. and Joseph M. Phelps, Sr. and wife Gloria of Washington, N.C.; sisters, Ruby Simmons of Hopewell, Va., Betty Lou Hardison and Rita Modlin of Plymouth, N.C.; brother, Thomas Bateman of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren, Jeff Phelps and wife Crystal, Jason Phelps and wife Meredith, Kim Nobles, Kristin Nobles White and husband Trent, Joseph M. Phelps, Jr., Jessica Guth and husband Joe; great grandchildren, Nicholas Phelps, Holley Phelps, Samantha Phelps, Taylor Phelps, Kelsey Westbrook, Kaitlin Westbrook and Hunter Westbrook.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maitland Memorial Chapel and other times at the residence.  Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
