Mr. Jerry Wayne Guthrie, Sr., age 60, a resident of 65 Running Pines Rd, Chocowinity, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday January 1, 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Church and will be conducted by Rev. J.M. Sonny Browne, III. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery. Lawrence Beacham, Kenny Beacham, Bill Sprenkle, Frankie Rouse, Tim Cashion and Bobby Jackson will serve as pallbearers. Bill Nelson will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Guthrie was born in Beaufort County on September 29, 1949 to the late Thelbert Russell Guthrie and Estelle McLawhorn Guthrie who survives. On December 18, 1999 he married Betsy Baker who survives. He was an electrician with SE &M where he retired in 2001. Mr. Guthrie was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Chocowinity, VFW, Moose Lodge and Redmen Tau Tai Tribe # 18.
He is survived by his mother, Estelle M. Guthrie of Chocowinity; his wife of the home, Betsy Baker Guthrie; one son, Jerry Wayne Guthrie, Jr. and wife Kay of Greenville; one daughter, Patricia Guthrie of Roanoke, VA; one step son, Michael Edwards of Chocowinity; one step daughter, Keisha Edwards of New Bern; one brother, Edmund Guthrie of Chocowinity and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell Guthrie, Jr., Larry Guthrie and Frederick Guthrie.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
