Mrs. Mary Adeline Fox Payne, age 82, a resident of Autumnfield of Belhaven, died Friday, January 8, 2010.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be conducted by pastor Sue Farlow. Burial will follow at the Brooks Family Cemetery at Gull Rock in Hyde County.
Mrs. Payne was born in Landrum, SC on July 16, 1927 to the late Reagan Hamilton Fox and Mattie Elizabeth Wolfe Fox. On August 11, 1965 she married Alton Warren Payne who preceded her in death on March 19, 1992. She was employed with Northrup Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethage, NY for 23 years, where she retired from in June of 1989. Mrs. Payne was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one stepson, Alton W. Payne of Houston, TX; three stepdaughters, Jonnie Sandoval of Swannanoah, NC, Holly Nelson of Patchogue, NY, Susan Lee of Swannanoh, NC; one brother, James George Fox of Harrisonberg, VA and four stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Reagan H. Fox, Jr. and William Fox.
Mrs. Payne was generous with contributions to numerous charities. Therefore, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Autumnfield of Belhaven for the love and compassionate care she received there.
