Mrs. Helen B. Alligood

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Boyd Alligood, age 85, a resident of 5786 Slatestone Road, Washington, died Thursday morning January 28, 2010.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday January 31, 2010 at Rosemary Church of Christ and will be conducted by Mike Caton, Mike Isbell and Shane Whitley. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Her great-nephews, Donnie Woolard, Stephen Whitley, Stewart Whitley, Eric Singleton, Brad Alligood and Tony Alligood will serve as pallbearers. Her nephews, Elders and Deacons of Rosemary Church of Christ and the Men of Elizabeth Chapel Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on January 9, 1925, daughter of the late John Richard Boyd and Martha Elizabeth Woolard Boyd. She was a 1943 graduate of Bath High School. On March 16, 1944, she married Archie Ray Alligood who preceded her in death on August 23, 1984. Mrs. Alligood was employed as a retail clothing clerk at Buckmans Department Store and Lewis Ladies Clothing Store. She was a volunteer at Beaufort County Hospital for ten years, a member of the Beaufort County Grange and a former member of the Beaufort County Extension Agency Homemakers Club. Mrs. Alligood was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ, a member of the church choir and a member of the Ladies Aide.
She is survived by her son, Marty Hale Alligood of the home; her daughter, JoAnn A. Isbell and her husband, Mike of Washington; her grandchildren: Ann Elizabeth Baker and her husband, Keith and Mary Catherine King and her husband, Travis; her great-grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Baker, Caroline Grace Baker, Rachel Lauren Baker, Jameson Hale Isbell and Maya Marie King. She is also survived by a special friend, Faye Waters and husband Phillip.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Joyner Boyd, Alton Boyd, Elon Boyd and William Russell Boyd and her sisters: Ruby Warren, Eula Congleton White and Kathleen Woolard Alligood.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday January 30th at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
