Mrs. Irene Browney Cahoon Sigmon, age 96, a former resident of Beaufort County, left this world for her heavenly reward on February 3, 2010 at Hospice of Citrus County in Inverness, FL.
A celebration of Mrs. Sigmon’s life will be 3 p.m. Saturday February 6, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington, officiated by her grandson Rodney Rowland. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Grandsons and other family members will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Sigmon was born in Beaufort County on October 28, 1913, daughter of the late William Thomas Browney and the late Hymie Elizabeth Stubbs Browney. She was preceded in death by husbands Hosea W. Cahoon and Walter S. Sigmon. Mrs. Sigmon was a homemaker and a former member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sigmon was a bold lady in sharing her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and always had a great desire to lead others to the assurance of eternal life with Him. 1 John 5:13!
Survivors include a son: Alfred Eugene Cahoon and wife Christine of Grantsboro; a daughter: Clara C. Barkley and husband Dick of Inverness, FL; two step-children: Deree S. Dale of Matthews, NC and Glenn Sigmon of Rudyard, MI; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday February 6, 2010 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Haiti Relief Fund, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or Hospice Care Unit at CMH, 502 Highland Blvd., Inverness FL 34452.
