CANDLER- Joseph Brian “Joe” Frick died at home on February 2, 2010, after a 15-month battle with glioblastoma multiforme brain tumors.
Joe was the grandson of the late Joe and Eva Kornegay of Washington, NC and O.B. and Annie Lee Frick of Statesville.
Asheville native, he was born on July 10, 1970, and graduated from Asheville High School in 1988 and graduated from UNC-Asheville in 1993. While at UNC-A Joe was active in founding the Sigma Pi fraternity chapter and made many lifelong friends. He was a member of Troop 138 Boy Scouts of America at Abernethy United Methodist Church where he earned his Eagle Scout Rank in 1987. He was a Vigil Honor member of Scouting’s Order of the Arrow and was elected Lodge Chief of Tsali Lodge.
Most of Joe’s working years were spent as a waiter and he was proud of doing his job well. He had worked in St. Thomas, USVI; Pensacola, Fla.; Baton Rouge, La.; and Vacaville, Calif. Locally, he had worked at many of the finer restaurants, such as 23 Page, The New French Bar, The Flying Frog and Savoy. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, fly fishing, and being outdoors.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 14th at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Asheville of which he was a member.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the New Life Center, a project to build a chapel/education building at Buncombe Correctional Center, 125 Caldonia Drive, Candler, NC 28715.
He is survived by his parents, Harry and Anne Frick of 32 Country Lane, Candler; sister, Julie and her husband Bill Brooks and their children, Joshua, Bethany, and Moriah of Vacaville, Calif. He is also survived by his aunt, Jane Woolard and her husband Keith, of Washington, NC; cousins, Tom Franz of Wilmington, NC, Brett O’Brien of Greenville, NC, and Erin Franz of Washington, NC.
