Silas Leroy Young, born Oct. 11, 1918, in Fayetteville, N.C. passed away peacefully at his home, February 8, 2010. He served in the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He lived most of his adult life in New York City, where he was a New York City Policeman for twenty years and later a meat and poultry inspector for the State of New York. Silas was married for 49 years to Jacqueline Young of New York, with whom he retired to Washington, N.C. in 1980. After her death in 1991, he remarried Helen Snowden of Aurora, in 1994. She also preceded him in death in 2003. Silas was active in Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church for many years and later affiliated with Higher Dimensions Church of Washington. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra, son-in-law, Donald, and two grandchildren, Patrick and Dawn. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010, at 11 AM, at Higher Dimensions Church, 218 3rd St., Washington, Bishop Jerry Midgette officiating.
The body will be in Church 1 Hour prior to Service.
