Annie “Jean” Dixon Edwards, age 77, a resident of 3303 NC 92 East, Bath, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Dennis R. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Donald Cutler, Julian Cutler, Ernie Everett, Kevin Everett, Earl Jordan and Horace Waters will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Pinetown Rescue Squad and EMS will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on October 5, 1932 to William Jasper and Elizabeth Godley Dixon. She was married to Robert Mills “Red” Edwards who preceded her in death on May 18, 1999. Jean was a homemaker and formerly owned and operated the Midway Grocery and Trade Post. She was known as “The Cake Lady.” Jean was a member of Everett’s Church of Christ where she had been the organist, sang in the choir, was a member of the Everett’s Ladies Aid and the Bath Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Gail Jefferson of the home, and three grandchildren, Robert Mobley, Bradley Baker and Buster Elks Baker, Jr. and her devoted friend, Virginia Everett.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, William Mobley and Beverly Baker.
