Mr. Roy Matney Lester, age 75, a resident of 1823 Goose Creek Rd. Washington, died Friday, February 19, 2010.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Woodards Pond Church of Christ and will be conducted by Tom Reid and Jim Reid. Joshua Pettrey, Zachary Roy Pettrey, Steven Boone, Mitchell T. Harris, Jr., Michael Boone and Leslie Jordan will serve as pallbearers. David Poff, Daniel Poff, Adam Poff and the elders of Woodards Pond Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Lester was born in Ballard, West Virginia on March 27, 1934 to the late William Thomas Lester and Minnie Jones Lester. On March 6, 1960 he married Lana Gail Poff who survives. He was a graduate of Peterstown High School in Peterstown, West Virginia and then served in the United States Army. He was employed with Celanese Corporation for twenty years. He then went to Bluefield College of Evangelism in Bluefield, West Virginia to become a minister for the Church of Christ and Christian Church, serving as a minister since 1973. Mr. Lester ministered at Woodards Pond Church of Christ in the 1980s and was a member there until his death.
Survivors include his wife of the home Lana G. Lester; two daughters, Joni Lester Boone and husband Steven of Radford, VA, Theresa Lester Harris and husband Mitch of Washington; six grandchildren, Joshua Pettrey, Zachary Roy Pettrey, Brooke Pettrey, Rachael Harris, Michael Boone, Andrew Boone; two sisters, Gladys Long of Ballard, WV, Betty Jean Lester of Winston Salem, VA, and two brothers, Everette Lester of Hanns Creek, WV and Bobby Lester of Lumberton, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm Monday, February 22, 2010 at Woodards Pond Church of Christ and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Woodards Pond Church of Christ, 9004 US 264 Hwy. East, Washington, NC 27889.
