Southside stomps Manteo|Area Roundup

Savannah Mumford stifled Manteo on Thursday as she allowed one run in seven innings to lead Southside to a 3-1 win.
Mumford struck out seven batters and gave up only five hits, while going 2-2 from the plate for the Seahawks (3-2,1-1).
Sondra Sparks provided the game-winning hit as her two-RBI double put Southside up 2-1.
Shakira Lomax was 1-2 with a triple for the Seahawks, which plays their next game Tuesday at home against Perquimans. (WDN)
Raiders fall to Hobgood
Despite a brilliant game from Allison Armstrong, the Pungo Raiders fell 15-4 to Hobgood in Thursday’s softball action. Armstrong went 3-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Also getting hits for Pungo (0-5) were Tess Smithwick (1-2), Karissa Cahoon (1-3, 2B, RBI), Jenna Sadler (1-3), Melanie Harris (1-2), Gibsen Armstrong (1-2) and Hannah Mutschler (1-1).
Smithwick and Cahoon pitched for the Raiders.
“We came out with great momentum and I was expecting good things,” Pungo first-year coach M.J. Williams said. “We got on the board in the first inning with two runs, but then things just started for Hobgood and they scored 11 runs in the first inning.
“Our bats looked great today, and Allison really had a wonderful game, offensively and defensively. Jordan Dunbar also had a good day. She showed great leadership. Tess gave a great effort for us and kept her bat hot. She found a way to get on base every at bat.”
The Raiders play at Lawence on Monday. (WDN)
Terra Ceia slides past Lawrence
Morgan Boyd tossed a complete game to lead Terra Ceia to a 2-1 win over Lawrence Thursday.
Boyd struck out six batters in seven innings and allowed only two hits to up the Knights’ record to 4-1 (3-1).
Paige Roberson was 2-4 with an RBI, while Chandler Furlough was 1-3 with an RBI to pace Terra Ceia. The Knights will be back in action on Monday when it plays at Northeast. (WDN)
Pungo falls to Hobgood
Tyler Mann and Zack Cradle were each 1-2 with an RBI for Pungo as it fell 15-3 to Hobgood on Thursday.
The Raiders (1-3) will be back in action on Monday when they play at Lawrence. (WDN)
