Eleanor Williams Morris, 70, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
She was born March 21, 1940 to Alonzo and Rosa Williams. A native of Robersonville, she graduated as Salutatorian of her class from Robersonville High School. While there, she played all sports as well  as played the flute and was a majorette in the band. After graduation, while working as a secretary at Robersonville High School, she met the love of her life, J.C. Morris, whom she later married on September 5, 1959.
She continued to be active in adult basketball and softball for many years, with her team winning many tournaments.
She and J.C. moved to Plymouth after they were married, where she worked  as a secretary for  Plymouth High School. She later began working at Weyerhauser where she worked numerous jobs while there and was known for making chocolate pies for her coworkers. She worked there for 33 years before retiring in 1995.
Eleanor and J.C. have 2 children, Jimmy and Jakki, for whom she was very involved in their school activities by being a grade mother and an active member of the PTA.
She was an avid supporter of many charities including the United Way. She wrote a poem that was adopted by the United Way as their National Official Document.
Eleanor and J.C. were lifetime fans of the ECU Pirates and active members of the Pirates Club for many years where they funded many Athletic  Scholarships. They could be seen anytime traveling to the games in their “purple and gold Pirate car,” where they had lots of fun tailgating and socializing with their many ECU friends.
Eleanor recently became a member of the First Baptist Church of Plymouth.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, J. C., and her children, Jimmy, and wife Liz of Robersonville, Jakki and husband Mark of Wendell;  grandchildren Devon Morris, Summer Morris and Ashlee Sawyer; great grandchildren Sebastian and Lily Morris; Sister, Louise and husband Lloyd of Bath, and brother-in-law, Bob Jzyk.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Peggy Jzyk, and granddaughter, Mary Rosa.
Visitation will be Monday night at Maitland Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 and other times at the home at 508 Roxie Reese Road. Funeral will be Tuesday at 2pm at First Baptist Church of Plymouth with burial immediately following at Hillside Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Community Hospice of Martin County or another charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and family for their constant support and prayers. A special thanks to the Hospice staff for their loving care, to special nurse, Jackie, to her special friends, ‘The Golden Girls,” and Pastor, Rev. Jimmy Hagwood.
