Edna Smith Banks, a resident of 1624 Highland Drive, Ridgewood Manor, Washington, NC passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday May 21, 2010 at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the home of her daughter Louise Furman, 82 Furman Lane, Chocowinity.
Mrs. Banks was born September 13, 1921 to the late William Bonner and Ida Whitehurst. She was a member of the Salvation Army and the Women's Home League.
Mrs. Banks is survived by three daughters: Louise Furman and husband Harley of Chocowinity; Eleanor Smith Taylor and husband Bill and Cindy Smith Congleton and husband Steve both of Washington; two sons: William "Bill" Smith and friend Liz Toler and Robert Smith and fiancée' Darlene Rawls both of Washington; two sisters: Daphine W Hawkins and Francis W. Ipock both of Cove City; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy D. Smith and also Mack Banks who she later married; three brothers: James, Earl, and Daniel Whitehurst and three sisters: Ida Eleanor Whitehurst, Bernice W. Heath and Mable W. Page.
