John Wriston McQuay, Sr., age 78, of Washington, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC died May 25, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. A visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Washington, NC with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. McQuay was born October 3, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late John William and Faye Dean McQuay. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington, NC, retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company as a Marketing Manager, was a member of Derita Masonic Lodge #715, Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Temple of the Shrine. He was Great Sachem of the N.C. Order of Red Men and was a co-ordinator for Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors: sons, Johnny McQuay, Jr. and wife, Jane of Charlotte, Joe McQuay and his Companion, Don of Miami, Fla. and Jerry McQuay of Charlotte; step-daughter, Jackie Alexander of Sumter, SC; step-sons, Jack Elliott and wife, Diane; seven grand and ten great-grandchildren and a brother, Jeep McQuay and wife, Marian and the mother of his sons, Bruce Dulin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Louise Elliott McQuay.
