Mrs. Retha Ecklin Lewis, age 85, a resident of 2207 Mouth of the Creek Road, Blounts Creek, N.C., died Monday, July 5, 2010 at Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington, N.C.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Melvin Haas. Burial will follow in Ecklin Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Doug McRoy, Billy Boyd, Tommy Boyd, Danny Natale, Curtis Tripp, Ron Funari and Walter Lee Cratch.
Miss Retha was born on February 19, 1926 in Washington, N.C. She was the daughter of the late James Heber and Myrtle Elizabeth Wells Ecklin. Miss Retha graduated from Washington High School in 1944. After her retirement from Mays Drug Store, she filled her free time by learning to paint, playing the organ, crocheting, traveling with the Senior Citizens of Beaufort County and attending the Friends of Old Washington High Schools meetings. Miss Retha also spent many enjoyable hours with her church family.
Miss Retha is survived by her son, James D. Lewis and wife, Mary Hunt Lewis of Washington; a granddaughter, Christie Lewis Potts and husband, Charles of Washington Park; a grandson, Gregory H. Lewis and wife, Lynn of Bath; three great grandchildren, Morgan Potts, Latham Potts and Gray Lewis; a sister, Sylvia Ecklin Natale and husband, S.A. Natale of Newport and several nieces and nephews.
Miss Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Alton G. Lewis; a son, Larry W. Lewis; and two brothers, Alton Ecklin and Lois Ecklin.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to the funeral hour Wednesday at Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church and other times at her home, 2207 Mouth of the Creek Road, Blounts Creek.
