Ruth Evelyn Brown Bland, age 77, a resident of 250 Lovers Lane, Britthaven of Washington, died July 13, 2010 at Beaufort County Medical Center. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, officiated by Rev. Lee Hendricks. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Andy Beacham, Josh Ambrose, Marty Hylemon, Wesley Hylemon, Jody Stowe, and Eric Baynor.
She was born on January 28, 1933 in Winston-Salem, NC, daughter of the late James Howard Brown and Nancy Virginia Hutchens Brown. Ms. Ruth attended Beaufort County Community College where she received her Nursing Assistant Degree. She worked at Beaufort County Nursing Home until her retirement. Ms. Ruth was a Lord-loving Christian who enjoyed listening to her preaching on a daily basis.
Ms. Bland is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Brown Lane of Yadkinville, NC and Terri Brown Ambrose and husband Linwood of Washington, NC; two sons Walter R. Brown Jr. and wife Lisa of Winston-Salem, NC and Joseph "Joey" Bland Jr. of Washington, NC; six step-children, Gerald Bland, Bobby Bland, Teresa Bland, Kahl Bland, David Bland, and Jimmy Bland; two sisters, Rosa Gaddy of Winston-Salem and Faye B. Ware and husband Aubrey of High Point, NC; and seven grandchildren, Brian Hylemon, Marty Hylemon, Wesley Hylemon, Josh Ambrose, Christina Bland, Blake Brown and Zack Brown.
