William Cecil Brinkley, 80, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Davis Health Care Center.
Bill was born September 1, 1929 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Jesse Graham Brinkley and Lina Rhodes Brinkley. His brother, Jesse G. Brinkley, Jr., of Raleigh, NC, preceded him in death.
Mr. Brinkley served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Maryland and was a Pharmaceutical Rep with Merck &Co. for over 40 years. In the 1960s he was a Ward Leader in the Republican Party in Staunton, VA. Bill was a former member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Washington, NC, where he was the Treasurer, Lay Reader, and Chalice Bearer. He is a current member of St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Penny Kinnard Brinkley; daughter, Pamela Brinkley Zieman (Dwight) of St. Croix, USVI; two sons, William F. Brinkley (Kingsley) of Fairfax, VA, and Paul Scott Brinkley (Melissa) of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Ainslee Wallace, Anna Brinkley, Taylor Brinkley, Harper Brinkley, Joshua Brinkley, and Isabella Brinkley; brother, Robert F. Brinkley (Pattie) of Wild Dunes, SC; and sister-in-law, Betty Poole Brinkley of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church with The Rev. Richard G. Elliott and Deacon Betty Buck officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
