Mrs. Barbara Louise Purvis, age 81, a resident of 371 Lamont St., Belhaven, died peacefully at home with her family on Thursday, October 28, 2010.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Belhaven Community Cemetery and will be officiated by Rev. Chris Noble.
Bunny was born in Albany, New York on June 30, 1929, daughter of the late Louis P. and Emma Childs Gedrow. She was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School and a 1950 graduate of Green Mountain Jr. College in Poultney, Vermont. She worked briefly for the New York Telephone Company and then became a loving wife, mother, grandmother and active community participant in Albany, NY, Marblehead, MA, Hendersonville, NC and Belhaven. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jule Purvis of the home; daughter, Julie P. Robinson of Durham; grandson, Casey P. Robinson and wife, Amanda of Wilmington, NC; two nieces, Emmy Lou Johnson Holman of Ann Arbor, MI and Paula Mae Johnson Munson of Cedar Park, TX. She was preceded in death by her son, Jay Purvis and her sister Shirley Pauline Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the home.
