Floyd R. Sutton Sr., age 75, a resident of 1660 W. 5th Street, Washington, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, officiated by Minister Maxie Gavin. The family will receive friends at Hillside Funeral Service on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. until service hour. Pallbearers will be William Samuel “Sammy” Robbins III, Leon Morris, Lavern Morris, and Steel Cox.
Mr. Sutton was born on June 18, 1935 in Pitt County, NC, son of the late Scott and Maebell Sutton. He attended Bath High School and served in the United States Army as a medic in Germany. He married LaDonna Davenport on November 17, 1951 and started Sutton Builders in Washington, NC. Mr. Sutton built homes for 35 years in Beaufort County before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing on the Pamlico River, NASCAR, and time with his family. He loved his Lord and served as a deacon at Woolard’s Point Church of Christ. He was a mason and a member of the Beaufort County Home Builders Association. Those who knew him remember his kind, compassionate demeanor, and his willingness to help his fellow man.
He is survived by his son, Floyd R. Sutton Jr. and mate, M. Douglas Grizzard of Moore’s Beach; two sisters, Barbara Morris of Vanceboro and Kay Barbour of Washington; and one brother, Lindsay J. Sutton of Washington. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra M. Davenport; a brother, Dalton R. Sutton; and a nephew, Terry R. Sutton.
