Vikings, Knights advance

Plymouth passed its first test of the postseason as it topped Northside 49-12 in the first round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs Friday night.
The No. 3 Vikings (11-1) got a three touchdown effort by Ronnell Blount, who ran for a total of 60 yards, while Carl McCray tallied a team-high 103 yards and one score. Davonte Bland (66 yards), Dylan Watts (52 yards) and Demetris Davis (30) each scored once to top the sixth-seeded Panthers who end the season with a 3-9 record.
The Vikings will move on to face the winner of the Creswell-Northampton-East matchup next week. (WDN)
Knights blow by Pirates
Riverside opened up the playoffs on a high note as it beat Perquimans 47-6 in the first round of the NCHSAA 1-AA playoffs.
Ramelle Lanier had a fantastic night as he galloped for 78 yards and five touchdowns to lead the No. 4 Knights over the No. 5 Pirates.
Running back Quenton Lawrence got eight carries and ran for 95 yards and a score, while quarterback Luke Mathews was 9-for-15 for 149 yards and one TD. Trevon Rodgers caught five of those passes for 68 yards. Riverside will move on to face the winner of the Southwest Onslow-Dixon contest in Round 2. (WDN)
