While attending school, he met Regina (Jean) Keale, and they were married. While at Fort Monmouth, he transferred to a small office that began experimenting using computers in the military training system and other developing training techniques. During his time with this office, he was transferred to Fort Gordon, GA, Fort Eustis, VA, and the Fort Monroe, VA. He retired from the U.S. Civil Service and shortly after moved to Washington, NC.
