Mr. Leon Pledger, age 67, a resident of 609 Long Point Road, Chocowinity, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Rev. Phil Emmert.
Leon was born in Engelhard, N.C., on March 7, 1943, son of the late Ira and Hazel Gibbs Pledger. He graduated from Hyde County Schools and married the former Dorothy Ann Pritchett on Feb. 1, 1964, who survives. Leon started his career in banking as a teller in Norfolk, Va. He spent most of his working life with SunTrust Bank Eastern Shore of Virginia as vice-president and chairman of the board until he retired in 1998. Following retirement, you could find him on the golf course cracking jokes with his friends, out on the water, or working in his garden. Leon never met a stranger, always had a kind word to say and touched many lives with his wonderful sense of humor.
Leon is survived by his wife of 46 years: Dorothy of the home; a daughter: Cynthia Palmaz and her husband, Claudio, and her son, Justin, all of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister: Delores Berry of Manteo, N.C.; a brother: Vernon Pledger of Richmond, Va.; an aunt: Lila Mae Manning of Chocowinity, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the memorial service hour Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made in memory of Leon Pledger to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.
