David Owen Wright, Jr., age 77, a resident of 567 Everett Community Road, Pinetown, N.C., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Rev. Curtis White. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Larry Sullivan, Lester Sullivan, J.J. Waters, Brian Radcliff, Allen Michael Waters, J. Moye Sullivan, Jack Gurkin and Wayne Sullivan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Blankenship.
Mr. Wright was born in Holland, Va., on Jan. 1, 1933, son of the late David O. Wright, Sr. and the late Audrey Russell Wright. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. Mr. Wright married the former Beryl Hope Scott who preceded him in death and later married the former Janice Sullivan on Oct. 2, 1987 who survives. During his military career, he was the superintendent of Pharmacy Service at Langley AFB from 1964 to 1974. Following his military career, he worked at Hampton Roads Sanitation Dept. for nine years and as superintendent of the James River Plant in Newport News and 11 years as supervisor of Chemical Waste Plants for Newport News Shipyard before retiring and moving to his wife’s native Beaufort County. Mr. Wright was a member of Franklin Baptist Church who enjoyed bike riding, guns, music and cameras.
Survivors include his wife: Janice of the home; a son: Barry O. Wright and his wife, Donna, of Yorktown, Va.; two daughters: DeAnn Wright Reifler of Hampton, Va., and Susan Wright Nail of Va.; two grandsons: Jonathan Reifler of Newport News, Va., and Colby Martin Nail of Va.; four granddaughters: Whitney Hope Reifler of Norfolk, Va., Darbi Hope Wright of Yorktown, Va., Ali Nicole Wright of Yorktown, Va., and Madison Hope Nail of Va.; two stepsons: Robert E. “Ed” Radcliff and his wife, Donna, of Smithfield, Va., and Scott Radcliff of Newport News, Va.; two step-grandsons: Robert Kyle Radcliff of Newport News, Va., and Robert Cole Radcliff of Gloucester, Va.; a step-granddaughter: Laura Radcliff of Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and a sister: Betty Sue Wright of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
