Leroy Fleming died peacefully,
surrounded by fam ily
on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010,
at Riverside Regional Medical
Center. He was 68 years old.
Leroy was born in Aurora,
N.C., on Aug. 2 1, 1942. After
gra duating from Warwick
High School in 1 960, h e was
dr afted into the U.S. Army
and served one tour in Vietnam with
the 458th Transportation Compa ny as a
Harbor Craft Boatswai n. Foll owing his
Honorable Discharge, Leroy becam e a
dedicated pipefitter in the shipyard and reti red after
42 years.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Willie
“Pete” Fleming Jr.; sister, Betty Lou Boyd; and brother,
Terry Eugene Fleming, all of Blount’s Creek, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elizab eth
Rose Gallins Fleming; three sons, Michael and his wife,
Michelle, Scott and Chris and his wife, Liz; and a daughter,
Lynnette Marie Fleming, all of Newport News. He is
also survived by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Fleming of
Blount’s Creek, N.C.; and sister, Cynthia Fleming Porter
and her husband, Fred, of Aurora, N.C.
Leroy’s gr andchildren Jessica, Michaela, Mckenz ie,
Michael, Marc, Olivia and gr eat-grandchildren, Julian,
Jayla, Jordan, Jolie, Josie, and Ki ley, nephews, n ieces,
and cousins will all miss him dearly.
The family would also like to thank hi s oncology
nurse s, Li ndsey, Cindy, and Wendy for the ca re they
provided to him during his stay.
Viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday,
Dec. 19, 2010, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the
funeral home chapel. The burial will immediately follow
in Peninsula Memorial Park with Pastor Jim Weston officiating.
After the funeral, the family will receive family
and friends at 905 Costigan Drive, Newport News.
