Mr. Waylon Judson Simmons, age 86, a resident of Belhaven, NC, passed away on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Pungo District Hospital.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
Mr. Simmons was born in Wayne County on Feb. 11, 1924, to Forrest and Lela Roberts Simmons. He attended schools in Goldsboro and graduated from school in Tarboro. He later married the former Mildred Cain who survives. Mr. Simmons was the owner/operator of Metal Specialties in Greenville, NC. He was a past member of the Greenville Moose and a charter member of the Goldsboro VFW Post. Mr. Simmons served his country with the US Navy. He has been a resident of Beaufort County since 1985.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Gail Schryer of Washington and Nancy Simmons Richey of DeFuniak Springs, FL; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Peggy Roberts of Lumberton, NC.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Forrest L. Simmons, Jr. and three sisters, Mildred Brown Tisdale, Violet Best and Jenny Bundy.
