Hattie Rae Chambers Wetherington, 73, a resident of the Smallwood subdivision of Washington died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Lincoln Hills Health Center of New Albany, Ind.
A graveside funeral will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Epworth United Methodist Church of Vanceboro officiated by Mrs. Wetherington’s son Joel H. Wetherington.
Mrs. Wetherington was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 7, 1937, daughter of the late Claude Ray Chambers and the late Effie Waters Chambers. She was a graduate of Bath High School. Mrs. Wetherington married Joel Cleveland Wetherington on Dec. 20, 1958, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. She also enjoyed art and being with her family, and adored her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son: Joel Wetherington and his wife Carol of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters: Alva Lilley of Plymouth, Lou Jean Long of Columbia, S.C. and Betty Jo Stanfield of Raleigh; two brothers: Travis Chambers of Delaware and James Chambers of Kinston; two grandchildren: Adam Hunter Wetherington and Sarah Paige Wetherington. Mrs. Wetherington was preceded in death by a son: Eric Graham Wetherington and a brother: John Chambers.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 641 River Road, Washington, N.C. 27889 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
