Mrs. Elizabeth Fray Toler Thomas Sheler, age 76, a resident of 109 Hillcrest Drive, Washington, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at River Trace Nursing Center of Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by the Rev. Ashley Trogdon. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Terry Hodges, Ray Lewis, Denis Mayo, Raymond Sheler, Mike Toler and Dean Toler will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Mayo, Sam Mayo, Jimmy Wallace, Marvin Alligood, Jeffery Harding and Greg Mayo. Roy Lewis and Joey Toler will provide music.
Mrs. Fray was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 12, 1934, daughter of the late Dean and Reba Paramore Toler. She married Robert Tom Thomas who preceded her in death on July 8, 1983 and later married Paul Sheler who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2001. Mrs. Fray retired from Beaufort County Hospital and the Department of Social Services. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association where she had served as secretary. Mrs. Fray was a member of Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son: Larry Thomas and his wife, Dawn, of Blounts Creek; two granddaughters: Kristy Christenberry and her husband, Festus, of Plymouth and Sandra Brinn and her husband, Bobby, of Washington; three great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Cody Christenberry and Kayla Martinez; two sisters: Sylvia Lewis and Sandra Mayo and her husband, Sam, all of Blounts Creek and three brothers: Joe Toler and his wife, Audrey, of Washington, Dallas Toler and his wife, Faye, of Blounts Creek and Gary Toler and his wife, Dorothy, of Chocowinity. Mrs. Fray was preceded in death by a brother: Glenn Bill Toler.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
