Douglas Montgomery Cooper

Mr. Douglas Montgomery Cooper, 79, of Creswell died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at his residence in Creswell.
Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Tyrrell County, he was the son of the late Hilton Cooper and Lola Liverman Cooper and was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Arnold Cooper; brothers, Wade Cooper, Willard Cooper, Richard Cooper; sister, Peggy Williams; granddaughter, Beverly Spear; stepdaughter, Mary Riddick; stepsons, Bobby Riddick and Charles Riddick. Douglas retired as a corrections officer with the N.C. Department of Corrections, was a member of the State Employee’s Association and member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church.
His family includes his wife, Iva Mae Ayers Cooper of Creswell; daughter Corine C. West of Creswell; sons, A.J. Cooper and wife, Patti, of Edenton, Doug Cooper and wife, Teresa, of Creswell; stepsons, Jimmy Riddick and William Riddick of Edenton, George Riddick of Big Horn, Mont., sisters; Sue C. Brin of Portsmouth, Va., Ida C. Celli of Texas City, Texas.; brother, Whit Cooper of Norfolk, Va.; six grandchildren, fourteen step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Reverend Susie Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, following the services at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
