Margaret “Peggy” Barrow Wall Miller

FUQUAY-VARINA č Margaret “Peggy” Barrow Wall Miller, 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed the service at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wall/Miller was born and reared on her grandmother’s farm near Pine Level, N.C. After her marriage to C.L. “Charlie” Wall in Micro, N.C.  she moved to Rocky Mount, N.C. where she raised her four children. Peggy was a homemaker until the age of 36, when she began working with the Holiday Inn Hotel chain and quickly rose to the position of General Manager of properties throughout eastern N.C. and Va. During her career, she managed hotels and restaurants for Holiday Inns, The Raleigh Inn, The Tarboro Inn, and several Brownstone Inns in N.C. and Tenn. Peggy was the recipient of numerous industry awards and was recognized as a distinguished leader in the hospitality industry in N.C., Va. and Tenn. She retired in 1990 and moved to Fuquay-Varina in 1994 to be near her family. Her passion was homemaking and gardening. On several occasions, Peggy received the Merit Award for best garden by the Fuquay-Varina Garden Club for her residence on Holland Road and was featured on the cover of the club’s annual calendar. Peggy lived her last five years at Litchford Falls in North Raleigh.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, William Isaac and Margaret Snipes Barrow; husbands, C.L. Wall and Don Miller and special grandmother, Lula Barrow.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Jayne Beth Wall of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Bill and Becky Wall of Chocowinity, N.C., Michael and Gwen Wall of Pikeville, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mike Sharp of Greenville, N.C. Peggy will always be lovingly known to her seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as “Nana.”

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 3200 Atlantic Avenue, Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27604.

Arrangements were under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home.
