Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.
I am a veteran, and I beg to differ with the editorial regarding the expenditure of $10,000 from both Beaufort County and the City of Washington for a sign at the Veterans Park. We are in a recession. The city and county are both considering cutbacks because of shortfalls in balancing the budget. It makes no sense to me spending taxpayers’ money for a sign, especially a sign costing $37,239. Come on guys, let’s be realistic and take that money and put up our own sign.
I think the town should have a celebration for everyone over 100 years of age.
It’s absurd for anyone to make the argument that you shouldn’t have to show ID to vote. That is a privilege of this country.
I loved your St. Patrick’s Day masthead Thursday. Keep up the good work. I love the paper.
The proposed Veterans Park sign shown on the front page of Thursday’s paper is a disgrace to every veteran. It looks like it was designed by a golfer. Why don’t you look at the old designs that were drawn up?
I want to take exception to a letter to the editor. I live on River Road, and the sidewalk is used all the time. I am sure that Terry has a problem with it, but I think it is the best money the county has ever spent.
We need a Veterans Park sign, but not the proposed sign that was shown in the paper. This does not represent all veterans. I am a veteran’s wife. The estimate for this sign is ridiculous. If it costs this much, it should be lined with gold.
Why does a caller think everyone needs to learn Spanish? We live in America.
Everyone should learn English. If you don’t know it, you should learn it.
