Two former Beaufort County high-school football standouts and former East Carolina University football players will be honored at an NFL Day in Beaufort County.

The Boys & Girls Club of Beaufort County, 1028 N. Bridge St., Washington, is sponsoring the event that will showcase NFL players C.J. Wilson and Terrance Copper. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Barbecue and fried chicken will be served, with tickets for the meal costing $10 each.

Wilson has been busy making appearances in the area since the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl in February. Wilson was a rookie on the Packers’ 2010-2011 team. While playing for ECU, Wilson and the Pirates went to bowl games each year he was on the field for the Pirates.

Copper, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, caught his share of passes while at Washington High School and ECU.

Mac “Bear” Hodges, a former president of the Beaufort County Pirates Club, said he is excited about the opportunity to be involved with helping organize the NFL Day to honor Wilson and Copper.

“I’m happy to have Terrence and C.J. back home,” he said. “It’s not every day two former Beaufort County high-school stars become NFL players. One of whom wins the Super Bowl his first year in the pros. That’s great.”

Hodges said the bands from Washington and Northside high schools will participate in the event, playing at the Boys & Girls Club in Washington beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“We’re banking on getting a big crowd out there,” Hodges said. “We’re actually not making any money from this at all. The cost is going strictly to the cost of the food.”

Alice Mills Sadler, director of the Boys & Girls Club, is in charge of the event. She was not available for comment Monday.

Tickets may be purchased at Pirates Grill & Pub, East Carolina BBQ & Grill and the Belhaven Municipal Building, or by calling Hodges at 252-946-0824.
