The Beaufort County Arts Council recently announced the winners of the 2011 Student Art Show.

The show opened with a reception Sunday in the gallery of the Washington Civic Center.

The works of art displayed on the walls of the gallery were taken from perhaps 500 entries submitted by students from Beaufort County’s public, private and home schools.

“This is the only student art show that brings all of the students of the county together under one umbrella,” said Joey Toler, executive director of the arts council.

Students whose work is not shown on the gallery walls received certificates for their efforts.

The show runs through May 5 in the gallery. The show is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

The Civic Center is sometimes closed during private events, and the public is asked to call the arts council at 252-946-2504 to check the gallery’s hours or for more information.
