Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I went and paid my Beaufort County auto tax today, and I gave them my check. Then they wanted to see my driver’s license to pay them. We need to have ID to vote, as well as everything else.

Reading that the interim city manager has proposed an electrical-rate reduction for in-town Washington Electric Utilities customers: That is discrimination against the WEU customers who live outside the city, and it is also taxation without representation. We have no choice but to be on city electric. If that is the case, then we need to be able to solicit electricity from other sources.

The proposed reduction in electric rates for just in-city Washington Electric Utilities customers is a shell game for the outside customers. It is really an increase in rates for all outside customers. The present electric fund annual transfer is, of course, an effective differential rate in itself. So, this new proposal simply adds a second break differential to the outside customer who has supported the area-wide electric utility company for decades.

I love the big umbrellas on Main Street. What a welcoming sight!

Just move the assistant county manager into Paul Spruill’s position. A small county like Beaufort County doesn’t need an assistant county manager anyway.
