Gaynell Swain Furlough Armstrong, 80, formerly of Edenton, died Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Mrs. Armstrong was born in Washington County, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Travis Elwood and Lillian Nooney Swain. A retired child day care provider, she was a member of Albemarle Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodson L. Furlough and their daughter, Mary Lou Furlough; by her second husband Kenneth L. Armstrong; by sisters, Ethel Balance and Vida Sawyer; and by brothers, Whitford, Lomas, Travis, and Ottis Swain.
Surviving are her daughter, Nellie Hurdle and husband Nathan of Elizabeth City; three sons, Woodson R. Furlough, Sr. and wife Teresa of Washington, N.C., Dalton Lee Furlough of Edenton, and Kenneth D. Armstrong and wife Sandy of Greenville; a sister, Dorcas S. Cooper of Rocky Mount; a brother, Rex Swain of Roper; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Greg Brinson. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
