Mrs. Annie Evans Asby, age 84, a resident of 118 Waterside Drive, Bath, N.C., died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Beaufort County Medical Center of Washington, N.C.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Dean Fulford, Jr. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Grandsons: Larry Asby, Jr., Samuel Stell, Robbie Payne, Clay Asby, James Foster and Carl Foster, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Asby’s remaining grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Asby was born in Beaufort County on May 11, 1926, daughter of the late James Levon Evans and the late Annie Mary Elizabeth Clark Evans. She married John “J.B.” Asby, Sr. on Oct. 30, 1942, who preceded her in death on May 27, 2000. Mrs. Asby was a retired machine operator with Hamilton Beach. She attended Bayview Community Church when her health permitted.
Survivors include two sons: Larry Asby and John Asby, Jr., both of Pinetown; three daughters: June Stell and her husband Kenneth of Pinetown, Sheila Paul and her husband Larry of Bath and Necy Asby of Pinetown; a stepdaughter: Edith Sullivan of Bath; a brother: C.O. Evans of Chocowinity; a sister: Edna Evans of Kittanning, Penn.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special niece: Libby Woolard of Chocowinity and Mrs. Asby’s devoted pet Sadie. Mrs. Asby was preceded in death by a daughter: Betty Asby Foster; four grandchildren: Marsha Ann Asby, William Foster, Jr., Tristan Fulford and Kenneth Stell, Jr.; and two sisters: Thelma Gardner and Cassie Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and at other times at the home.
