Free skin-cancer screenings on May 21

The Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in conjunction with the Shepard Cancer Foundation will offer free skin-cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to noon May 21 at the center, 1209 Brown St., Washington.
Drs. Jennie Crews and John Inzerillo will be joined by other physicians in the region to examine areas of concern and offer skin-cancer education. Free sunscreen will be provided.

May is National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month č the month dedicated to increasing public awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. According to the National Cancer Institute, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young adults 25-29 years old and the second most common form of cancer for adolescents and young adults 15-29 years old.
