Lillian Holliday Manning, 95, of Jamesville died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
Born Oct. 11, 1915, in Martin County she was the daughter of the late Ferd W. Holliday and Annie Brown Holliday and was preceded in death by her husband, William E. “Bill” Manning on Oct. 1, 1999, and their daughter, Helen Manning Newsome on Nov. 16, 2008; brothers, Jim Brown Holliday, Leonard Holliday and William A. “Bill” Holliday, Jr.
Mrs. Manning raised her family in Plymouth, moving to Jamesville in 1970 to operate the family farm and retire. She was an active member and deaconess of First Baptist Church of Plymouth where she taught a Sunday School Class, served on many committees, including the flowers and memorials committee and other boards. She was involved in community affairs through her affiliation with the Jamesville Garden Club, Ruritan Club, Shrinette’s, Women’s Club and was a great promoter of the Jamesville Fire and EMS Department.
Her family includes her son, W. Norman Manning and wife Gwen Blount Manning of Charlotte, N.C.; son-in-law, J. Eley Newsome, Sr. of Jamesville, N.C.; sister, Rachel Holliday Williams of Jamesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Mary Gwen and husband, Scott Russ of Charlotte, N.C., Martha Ann and husband, Rev. David Hyman of Pittsboro, N.C., Odis Newsome and wife Melissa of Raleigh, N.C., James E. Newsome, Jr. and wife Kolleen of Greensboro, N.C.; great grandchildren, Brandon Russ, Caleb Hyman, Noah Hyman, Zoe Newsome, William Newsome, James E. Newsome, III, Jadyn Newsome, Katlyn Newsome and Karson Newsome.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with the Revs. Jimmy Hagwood and Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Jamesville Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Plymouth and other times at the residence.
