It is not necessary to put an apostrophe when talking about Blounts Creek.
If the city has extra money on hand, it should keep it and try to help people with their electric bills.
Enjoyed reading Thursday’s editorial on wind farms. I used to do electrical updates on GE windmills all over Texas. There were thousands of windmills which produced power for Texas, Nevada and California. It’s amazing how much energy they can produce. Glad to see them come to North Carolina.
As a former resident of Lexington, Ky., I would like to point out that the derby on Saturday will be run at Churchill Downs. This is not in Lexington, but in Louisville, Ky.
It’s not right that the city is looking at outsourcing mowing and putting city employees out of jobs.
I noticed on the taped replay of the county commissioners meeting with the school board that it looks like an out-of-county restaurant catered their luncheon or dinner. Isn’t it a shame the county commissioners and school board can’t use a local restaurant for their catering in order to keep the sales-tax revenue and all other taxes in Beaufort County? It looks like they are a prime example of sending jobs out of the county.
Editor’s note: The following explanation was provided by Beaufort County Schools:
A caterer from a neighboring county was used for the May 2 joint meeting between the Beaufort County Board of Education and the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners. The caterer provides excellent service and an extremely competitive price.
For events hosted, Beaufort County Schools predominately utilizes caterers from within Beaufort County. We will strive to do so even more often in the future to support and sustain the local economy, as long as it is the best use of funds.
