Masil C. Jones

PORTSMOUTH ą Masil Cutrell Jones, 88, a former long time resident of Portsmouth, departed this life May 10, 2011. Born Oct. 26, 1922, in Hyde County, North Carolina, she was a charter member of West Side Christian Church where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, the Ruth Bible Class and a Sunday School Teacher for 25 years. Masil was also a member of the Ladies Shrine Zulekia Court #35, Jesterettes, Cedarettes Portsmouth Forest #143, Scottish Rite Ladies, and Order of the Eastern Star Esther Chapter #37. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother and grandmother and a true friend to others. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter H. Jones and her parents, Carl and Blanch Cutrell.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda J. Baker and husband Ronald, Gayle J. Wood and husband John, Debra J. Ripley and husband Earl; her sister, Doris Kerr of Washington, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, in West Side Christian Church by Rev. Catherine C. Cowgill. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling these arrangements.
The family would like to thank the staff of Dominion Village at Chesapeake and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
