Good Shepherd turns up heat for Cook Off

Parishioners at the Church of the Good Shepherd are turning up the heat for the upcoming Faith Community Cook Off & Picnic.
In addition to sponsoring its team with a $500 entry fee, pastor Jay Martin announced that the church is contributing an additional $1,000 as a challenge to other area churches. Proceeds from the June 4 event benefit the Let the Kids Play Free campaign, a partnership program with the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce to make youth sports affordable so all children can participate.
The Cook Off is scheduled to start at noon on June 4 with free hotdogs, snow cones and popcorn courtesy of Woogies in Chocowinity.
Area churches and organizations will be competing in a chicken cook-off and a barbecue cook-off as well as best casserole, dessert, salad, mac-and-cheese, vegetable and iced tea.
