Neil C. Alligood

Mr. Neil Colin Alligood, 64, a resident of 5907 Slatestone Road, Washington, N.C., died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington with Mike Caton officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Willie Allen, Phil Black, Billy Jarvis, Phil Garris, Ken Harris and Billy Braddy will serve as pallbearers. Frankie Black, Edwin “Booger” Harris, Bobby Gray Woolard and members of the Pamlico Chapter of Hunter’s Helping Kids will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Alligood was born on May 23, 1947, son of the late Etheridge and MaeBelle Whitaker Alligood. He was a 1965 graduate of Bath High School and continued his education at Lenoir Community College. On Feb. 11, 1967, he married the former Brenda Kaye Cox, who survives. Mr. Alligood was a retired automotive instructor with over 30 years of service at Beaufort County Community College. He was an A.S.E. certified mechanic and had worked in the automotive marine industry. Mr. Alligood was an arbitrator with the National Center for Dispute Settlement. Since his retirement, Mr. Alligood found great fulfillment in working with the clients at Wooded Acres, which is a home for persons with special needs, where he taught life skills. Mr. Alligood was an avid outdoorsman who served on committee of the Hunter’s Helping Kids organization. He also served as sponsor of the Annual Brian C. Alligood Memorial Youth Hunt which was established in memory of his son who passed away on Aug. 25, 2008.
In addition to his wife of the home, Mr. Alligood is survived by a son: Brad Alligood and his wife Lynn of Washington; a sister; Sonja A. Tuning and her husband Roger of Cumberland, Md., and the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Parker Colin Alligood and Olivia Morgan Alligood both of Washington.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Alligood was preceded in death by a son, Brian Collin Alligood.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington and other times at the home located at 5907 Slatestone Road, Washington, N.C.
